Maya graduated from the University of Oregon in 2007 with degrees in Spanish and Philosophy. She then worked as a wildland firefighter for the United States Forest Service for three seasons before attending law school at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating in 2012, she practiced civil litigation at Miller Nash in Portland, Oregon, and then relocated to Boise to clerk for the Honorable Stephen S. Trott of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In 2014, she joined the State Appellate Public Defender of Idaho.
As a Deputy State Appellate Public Defender, Maya advocated for her clients in the Idaho Court of Appeals and Idaho Supreme Court. She handled all types of felonies, from driving under the influence to first-degree murder, and raised issues covering the whole gamut, from excessive sentence challenges, to Fourth Amendment violations, to evidentiary trail errors. In addition to handling direct appeals from criminal convictions, she also advocated for clients who appealed from the denial of their post-conviction petitions. Maya has argued before Idaho’s appellate courts nearly twenty times.
Maya formed Waldron Legal in 2019 with the goal of continuing to advocate for clients in the Idaho appellate courts, while expanding her practice to include appeals in the Ninth Circuit and trial-level motion practice in Idaho’s state and federal courts.
